Kabul wants its properties in Karachi vacated

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Kabul has sought assistance from Islamabad against the occupation of two Afghan government properties in the port city of Karachi.

A senior Karachi-based Afghan diplomat has requested support from the Foreign Office and Interior Ministry for the evacuation of the two properties, The News reported on Saturday.

Consul-General Sayed Abdul Jabbar Takhari asked Islamabad to help evacuate Bungalow No 28 on the Mirza Khaleeq Baig Road and Bungalow No 82 in Amil Colony in limits of the Jamshed Quarters police station.

The diplomat told the newspaper the consulate had complained to the Pakistani authorities several times, but no remedial action had been taken yet.

The houses, owned the Bank-i-Millie Afghanistan, had long been occupied by some Karachi individuals, he alleged. Despite and eviction agreement signed on February 27, 2020, the bungalows are yet to be vacated.

Takhari recalled: “Last Eid, when we went there, the bungalows were empty, so we placed our people there. However, they [occupiers] came back, tortured our people and took control again at gunpoint.”

“These are our properties, and it is the government’s responsibility to get our properties vacated and ensure their protection,” the consul-general stressed.
