KABUL (Pajhwok): The third UN-convened meeting on Afghanistan is set to start this evening in the capital of Qatar, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said on Sunday.
Some delegates may continue their personal meetings even after the conclusion of the two-day conference, but they will not be considered part of the Doha huddle.
The UN chief’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric said representatives and envoys from 30 countries and international bodies had been invited to the meeting, to be chaired by Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo.
DiCarlo would also meet the representative from different countries, human rights and women rights campaigners, as well as civil society activists from Afghanistan, Dujarric said.
MoFA official Zakir Jalali wrote on X the third round of the Doha meeting on Afghanistan would commence as planned (June 30) at 6:45pm and will end at 8:45pm local time.
Jalali wrote: “There will be meetings on two issues on the second day of the conference (July 1), the first session will start at 8:30am and end at 11:00am, covering financial, banking and private sector issues.
“The second session, starting at 11:30am and ending 2:00pm, will focus on counter-narcotics and continued development of the country.”
Jalali said at the conclusion of the discussion, the third Doha meeting would officially come to an end.
Most of the participants would leave Doha, but some representatives may continue personal meetings, which would not be deemed as part of the Doha huddle, Jalali explained.
On Saturday, a delegation headed by Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid left for Qatar to attend the conference.
While leaving Kabul, Mujahid told reporters they were going to attend the Doha meeting for “mutual understanding and solving problems” and would call on the world for positive interaction with Afghanistan.
