ISLAMABAD (PAN): Up to 40 militants were killed in clashes with Pakistani security forces during an ongoing operation in the country’s lawless tribal region of Kurram, lying close to the Afghan border, the army said on Wednesday.
The militants were killed in clashes over the past three days, a Pakistan army major, Basharat Ahmad, told reporters in Kurram.
He claimed most parts of the agency have been cleared of insurgents as a result of the ongoing offensive, which he said, would be extended to other parts of the lawless region.
There had been no stiff residence so far from the Taliban in most parts, except Mathanai, the major said.
A number of militants had fled the area toward North Waziristan agency, he said.
Two army soldiers who were injured during the operation had been taken to hospital for treatment.
Residents said three women were killed and as many others people injured when their house was hit by a rocket during the operation.
