Kunar airstrikes leave 6 insurgents dead

ASADABAD (PAN in eastern Kunar province, officials said on Friday.

The air strikes took place in Narai and Asmar district, where the insurgents planned to attack foreign military bases, a statement from the NATO-led force said. It gave no further details.  

Juma Khan, a resident of the Nanglam village, was gunned down and his brother Zabihullah wounded by the fighters in the Sandari area of Manogai district. The victims were on their way home, provincial police chief, Awaz Muhammad Nazari, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Juma Khan was a poor man, working in an under-construction house in the Barkandi village of the district, a resident said on condition of anonymity.

The brothers were beaten up by the Taliban for trimming their beards before being allowed to go home, the resident said. The rebels fired on them when they boarded a public transport vehicle, killing Juma Khan and injuring Zabihullah, he added.
