HERAT CITY (PAN) Police seized 410 kilograms of opium from a vehicle in the Injil district of western Herat province on Friday, an official said.
The opium was recovered from a Mazda pick-up truck in the district centre at 5am, a western zone police spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Col. Dilawar Shah Dilawar said the driver sped away after being signalled to stop, but police chased and intercepted the vehicle, which had come from southern Kandahar province.
He would not say where the drug was being smuggled. The details would be made public on completion of the investigation, the police spokesman added.
Four days ago, counternarcotics police seized about 293 kilograms of crystal (heroin in a refined form) and 49 kilograms of morphine in the Islam Qala Dry Port near the Iranian border.
