AIBAK (PAN officials in northern Samangan province on Wednesday said more than 40,000 children infected with measles had been vaccinated during a five-day campaign.
In order to prevent spread of the disease, public health ministry officials conducted the drive in Khuram Wa Sarbagh, Feroz Nakhjir and Hazrat Sultan districts and Aibak, the provincial capital.
Public Health Director Dr. Abdul Hamid told Pajhwok Afghan News the children vaccinated were under 10 years of age. The drive has been conducted in 14 provinces of the country, including Samangan.
“Although similar campaigns are conducted in the province every year, this one was extraordinary, because most of the diseases spread to a drought in the province,” the director remarked.
As many as 240 volunteers, divided into 70 teams, conducted in the campaign and vaccinated children in remote areas, said another health official, Dr. Nazar Mohammad. Ten measles were registered in this province this year.
