2 bombers held with explosives-laden car

KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Two suicide bombers were arrested with an explosives-laden car during an operation by Afghan National Army (ANA) troops in southern Kandahar province, an official said on Monday.

The operation was conducted in the Shamir Qala area of Maiwand district on Sunday, the governor's spokesman, Zalmay Ayubi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The explosives were precisely defused by a bomb disposal squad of ANA and the two would-be suicide attackers were transferred to ANA headquarters.

Ayubi said the detainees wanted to target government departments. An investigation was ongoing and further details would be released to the media soon, he said.
