SAR-I-PUL (PAN): US soldiers shot dead a newly-hired Afghan guard in the northern province of Sar-i-Pul, local officials said on Saturday.
Abdul Rahim, the guard, was killed by US soldiers late on Friday night, after he was observed aiming his gun at the foreign troops, deputy police chief, Col. Jahangir, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
“The US soldiers were leaving their base when they observed the guard pointing his gun to them, therefore, the soldiers shot him,” he said. The victim had been appointed with the US special force five days ago, he said.
Governor Syed Anwar Rahmati confirmed the incident, saying the main reason behind the incident was the guard’s unfamiliarity with his duty. The NATO and the victim’s family have not yet commented in this regard.
