SAR-I-PUL (PAN): A woman and her child died as a result of severe cold in the Balkhab district of northern Sar-i-Pul province, an official said on Wednesday.
The victims died due to on their way to Mazar-i-Sharif for medical treatment, Balkhab district officer, Yousaf Ali Rastagar, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said most of patients, who could not be treated in the district, had to visit Mazar-i-Sharif or Sar-i-Pul, but the road link with the provincial capital had been blocked over the past 10 days.
Public works official, Eng. Inayatullah, said the incident happened near Balkh, saying efforts were underway to reopen the road connecting Balkhab with the provincial capital.
Resident Mohammad Hassan said: “The woman, her child and husband were going to Mazar-i-Sharif for treatment.”
