The beneficiaries of President hamid Karzai’s orders had had served half of their jail terms, Prison Department head Col. Abdul Wali Hesarak told Pajhwok Afghan News. Their releases was delayed for a month due to administrative problems.
Deputy Governor Muhammad Hanif Gardiwal urged the men to avoid a relapse into crimes after their release. He asked the beneficiaries to abide by the law and contribute to society’s welfare.
Abdul Hadi, 11, one of those released prisoners, said he had hit a person with his motorcycle and spent four month behind bars. The total number of inmates in the provincial jail is 1293, including 25 women.
