ASADABAD (PAN and Islamic Affairs Department, accusing it of irregularities in granting hajj quotas to districts.
Dozens of people, including tribal elders and youth, took part in the rally in Asadabad, the provincial capital, as protestors chanted slogans against the provincial hajj department. “We want our rights….the hajj department is rife with corruption,” they voiced out.
Hajj department officials said they had granted hajj quotas to districts in accordance with the ministry’s plan.
The peaceful demonstration involved residents of Narang, Soki, Sarkano, Khas Kunar and Norgul districts.
They accused the department of injustice in the distribution of hajj quotas.
The angry protesters blocked the Kunar-Jalalabad highway from 9am to 12pm and warned of more protest if their demands were not accepted.
One of the rally organisers Haji Kamil, said they would continue to protest until their demands were met.
A ministry representative for Kunar, Hazrat Jamal, said they had found a solution for the problem.
He said a commission was being created to resolve the matter through a ballot process, the only way to address the issue.
