TIRINKOT (PAN): Eight militants were killed and two others wounded during a police operation in the Charchino district of central of central Uruzgan province on Thursday, officials said.
Having air support from the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), police launched the operation in Dawang area on Wednesday morning, the district police chief, Wali Dad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The insurgents were flushed out of the area they previously controlled, the police official said. He gave no further details of the operation, in which at least one policeman was wounded.
But a Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, denied the fighters had suffered any casualties. Instead he claimed killing eight policemen in bomb attacks during the operation.
