HERAT CITY (PAN): The former district chief of Gulistan, Ghulam Yahya Tawakali, was shot dead Sunday morning by an unknown gunman outside his house, said an official.
A police officer Mohammad Ali Dashti told Pajhwok Afghan News that the former district chief was assassinated by a gunman in Karta area of Injil district in western Heart where he lives.
“When he stepped out of his home the assassin targeted him and escaped, and police have launched a search operation,” said the police officer.
In southwestern Nimroz province, four border policemen died in a roadside bombing.
Provincial police Chief Col. Mohammod Musa Rasouli said they were killed while defusing a roadside bomb in Choni area of Charburjuk district.
Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi claimed that 10 policemen, including two officers Mir Hamza and Yark, were killed, while an officer Abdul Qadoos wounded in that blast.
In southern Kandahar province, two children were killed and two others wounded in a roadside bombing in Ghorak district on Saturday night.
District chief Pacha told Pajhwok the explosion took place when a civilian vehicle hit a roadside bomb planted by Taliban militants to target foreign troops. A woman and man was injured in the incident.
