MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): A roadside bomb killed a district police chief along with three of his guards in the northern province of Balkh on Thursday, an official said.

The blast in the afteroon killed Koshandi police chief, Col. Mamoor Nasir, and his three police guards in the Chilto area, police spokesman Sher Jan Durrani told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Col. Nasir had been on the post over the past three years, said Durrani, who claimed the police officer maintained close liaison with residents.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the blast, saying the dead included the district police and crime branch chiefs and three others police. Another four policemen were injured in the attack, Mujahid said.
