KABUL): Four insurgents were killed and five Afghan soldiers were wounded during separate incidents of violence in Maidan Wardak and Paktia provinces, officials said on Monday, when explosives were found and defused at two locations in eastern city of Jalalabad.
Two Taliban insurgents were killed and as many wounded during a clash with security personnel in the Dimirdad district of central Maidan Wardak province, the governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Dead bodies of the fighters were handed over to area people, he said.
In southeastern Paktia, two insurgents were killed and a third wounded during a clash with security forces in the Zormat district on Sunday, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said.
A MoD statement said five Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were injured in separate incidents in Ghazni, Maidan Wardak and Helmand provinces.
In eastern Nangarhar, police seized explosives at two separate locations in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, police spokesman Maj. Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal said.
Police found explosives placed in front of a border policeman’s home near the Talashi square area. The explosives were defused by a police bomb disposal squad.
More explosives were found planted on a hand cart near the Water and Energy department, around 200 metres from the first site. The bomb disposal squad precisely detonated the device, the police official said.
He added a suspect in connection with explosives planted near the energy department had been arrested and being interrogated.
