KABUL): The Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) on Wednesday delivered money, vehicles and weapons it confiscated from convicted drug smugglers during the past two years to the government departments concerned, an official said.
Yar Mohammad Hussainkhel, the CJTF’s Special Prosecution Office head, told a press conference in Kabul the delivery included 296 different kind of weapons and 600 vehicles.
The money was handed over to Da Afghanistan Bank, the central bank, weapons to the Ministry of Defence and vehicles, including 600 cars and trucks, to the Ministry of Finance, he said.
Hussainkhel said $27,000, 5.7 million afghanis, 21.4 million Pakistani rupees, 66.5m Iranian toman, 7,000 Indian rupees, 1,600 United Arab Emirates Dirham and more than 1,300 Tajik currency were seized during the period.
He said the task force had already handed over more than five million Pakistani rupees and one million afghanis to the central bank.
Hussainkhel said the number of drug smugglers and people addicted to drugs had increased, calling on university teachers, lecturers and prayer leaders to help keep the youth away from drug use.
