KABUL‘s army chief Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani in Rawalpindi, has said communication and cooperation between ISAF, Pakistan and Afghanistan was critical to regional stability.
This was Dunford’s second visit to Pakistan as the commander of ISAF, the multinational force said in a statement.
During the session on Saturday in the garrison city, the two leaders discussed a variety of issues related to strengthening cooperation and pressuring militants who threaten security along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
The ISAF statement said the meeting was part of an ongoing dialogue to address security challenges of mutual concern.
Dunford said communication and cooperation between ISAF, Pakistan, and Afghanistan was critical for regional stability.
He also congratulated Kayani and the Pakistani security forces for their contributions to successful completion of national elections
For his part, Kayani said Pakistan would continue to make all efforts to bring about peace in Afghanistan.
According to an ISPR statement, bilateral relations and security issues along the Pak-Afghan border and strategy over withdrawal of NATO forces from Afghanistan were discussed at the meeting.
Gen. Dunford stated that Pakistan’s role in the Afghan reconciliation process was imperative.
