KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai on Monday denounced a militant assault on the Kabul airport, praising the security forces’ courage and quick response.
Triggered by a brazen assault on the Kabul International Airport early Monday morning, clashes between insurgents and security forces ended with the killing of all seven attackers.
The attackers in a vegetable-lade Suzuki pick-up entered a building under construction near the airport at 4.30am, but fire from security caused the vehicle to explode.
The clearing operation ended and the area was brought under control with the elimination of all seven guerrillas. Two of the militants blew themselves up while the rest were killed by the security personnel.
Currently on a visit to Doha, President Karzai said about the attack: “Afghanistan’s valiant forces have the ability to repel any enemy attack and protect their people and homeland.”
In a statement from his office, the president said terrorists could not intimidate with such acts the Afghan people who had chosen to work for their progress, prosperity and peace.
“The people would not let outsiders realise their nefarious goals (in Afghanistan),” the president added, hoping the country’s march toward progress would continue apace.
