KABUL): Two suspected suicide bombers were shot dead by Afghan security personnel in the Dasht-e-Archi district of northern Kunduz province, an official said on Monday.

The bombers on motorbikes were killed on Sunday night when they were trying to enter a funeral ceremony for a local police commander.

Administrative head of Dasht-i-Archi, Sheikh Sadruddin, told Pajhwok Afghan News one suicide vest exploded as police opened fire on the bombers, killing both.

Mohammad Tahir, a local resident, said the bombers intended to blow themselves up at the funeral ceremony but failed to reach their target.
