LASHKARGAH (PAN): More than a dozen insurgents have been killed in two separate security operations in southern Helmand province, security officials said on Friday.
At least 10 fighters were killed during clashes touched off by attack on Afghan army posts in the Shawal Desert area of Nad Ali district in the morning, the 15th Maiwand Military Corps said.
A statement from the corps said the militants fled as a result of strong resistance from the soldiers and left behind their associates’ bodies at the scene. The ANA personnel also seized weapons from the attackers.
Another three rebels were killed during an overnight firefight with police in the Daryab area of Kajaki district. Police spokesman Ahmad Fawad said another two guerrillas were wounded in the engagement.
On the other hand, Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi claimed the fighters had killed three foreign troops in Nad Ali and a number of Afghan Local Police members in Greshk district.
