Hajiyev, who handed over a consignment of food and other goods in aid to the Afghan authorities at Aqina dry port in Faryab province, said the proposed railroad connecting the two neighbouring countries would be complete by the end of 2014.
The Turkmen aid loaded in nine containers included food items, winter clothing, stationeries and furniture for Afghan children and other goods worth more than $500,000. The aid is being distributed in Faryab, Jawzjan and Balkh provinces.
Similar goods from the country have been delivered through Torghundi port in western Herat province.
Hajiyev said the railroad from Turkmenistan to Aqina Port would help strengthen trade relations between the two countries.
Appreciating Turkmenistan’s assistance, Faryab Governor Mohammadullah Batash said Turkmenistan was a neighbour who sent the Afghans cooking oil, petroleum products, gas and flour in aid, but there were some neighboring countries who exported rockets, mines and suicide attackers to Afghanistan
The governor said Turkmenistan had a key role in strengthening Afghanistan’s economy, saying the development of Aqina port indicated Turkmenistan’s sincerity in cooperation and friendship with Afghanistan.
The port in Andkoy district is near the border with Turkmenistan, where trade goods such as petroleum products and food items arrive from central Asian countries, Europe, the United Arab Emirate, Iran and China. Afghanistan exports agricultural products through the port.
Other imports include cars and their parts and exports include dried fruits like pistachios, almonds and homemade handicrafts like carpets, and animal skins.
