ASADABAD (PAN): Amid looming winter season, the residents of eastern Nuristan province are concerned about roads blockades by heavy snowfall, which triggers food, medicines and other items shortage.
Known as a mountainous province, Nuristan borders with Kunar province and Pakistan, with its main roads remained blocked during winter that caused multiple problems for locals.
During the past four years, the road has been expanded from Chapi Dari district of Kunar to Wama of Nuristan which remained blocked. However, it was reopened but still people were complaining of problems.
Amanullah, a resident of Kamdish district, told Pajhwok Afghan News Agency since his district was bordering Kunar which remained blocked by Taliban during summer while it was closed in winter by snowfall.
Militants were harassing locals and creating problems for them and even did not allow them to transport daily use items and edibles.
Every year, government allocated huge fund to clear blockade roads but the money ended up in personal pockets, he informed.
