ASADABAD (PAN): The governor of eastern Kunar province and other local officials travelled to Chapa Dara district to distribute food and winter aid to deserving families.
Locals and government employees had been unable to commute on the highway leading from Chapa Dara to Wama district of Nuristan over the past five years. But the highway was reopened as a result of a two-phase security operation.
Heading a delegation, Governor Shujaul Mulk Jalala visited Chapa Dara district on Monday and met residents and tribal elders to assess their problems and distribute aid.
Oil, rice, pulses, bean, soap, sugar and salt, as well as winter clothing were distributed to 500 families. Jalala assured residents the government would soon launch development projects in the district.
One of tribal elders, Haji Sakhi, said no development project had been executed in the district over the past six years. He asked the visiting delegation for construction of roads, health clinics and schools.
