GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Of the 423 polling stations in southern Ghazni provinces, 148 are facing a high security threat, officials said on Saturday.
A cleanup operation was needed to purge the area of militants and eliminate the looming threat to elections, a senior Afghan National Army officer said
Maj. Asmatullah, the 203rd Thunder Military Corps coordinator, told Pajhwok Afghan News all polling stations in Nava district would remain closed to avoid any untoward incident.
A search operation would be launched in a number of districts to reduce security threat levels, said Gen. Haidar Nekpai, the corps commander.
Shah Jahan, regional chief of the Independent Election Commission (IEC), urged the officials concerned to maintain security so that essential materials could be transferred to polling stations.
