TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Heavy clashes that broke out four days ago between security forces and dozens of insurgents are still ongoing in two districts of central Uruzgan province, officials said on Sunday.
The clashes in Dehrawud and Khas Uruzgan districts began after armed insurgents attacked police posts in Shali Nava area of Dehrawud, the district police chief, Qari Nazir Mohammad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The attack sparked heavy clashes in the area and so far 25 attackers had been killed and several others wounded.
Police officials acknowledged injuries to only two personnel in the clash.
Deputy provincial police chief Mohammad Aslam Kochai confirmed clashes were still ongoing in Dehrawud and Khas Uruzgan districts.
He said rebels stormed local police check posts, but suffered casualties after the police returned fire. He confirmed four security men had been injured.
But a Taliban spokesman, Qari Yusuf Ahmadi said 25 security personnel had been killed or wounded in the clashes. He also confirmed losing two fighters to the clashes.
