HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen shot dead the crime branch chief of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) in western Herat province on Sunday, an official said.
Hamid Mirzai was gunned down in the Drab Mulk locality of Herat city, the provincial capital, police chief Abdul Qadir Behsudi told Pajhwok Afghan News. He said Mirzai’s guard was wounded in the attack.
Police had detained a suspect in connection with the official’s killing, he said, adding the detainee was currently under investigation.
Elsewhere, security forces busted a gang of car-lifters in the Dihdadi district of northern Balkh province, the NDS said in a statement.
The group was involved in stealing cars in the district, the statement said, adding that the arrested individuals had recently snatched a car from a house in Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital.
