On December 12, the UN Security Council has unanimously adopted a resolution on a new NATO-led mission in Afghanistan, Resolute Support. The non-combat mission will take effect as of 2015 under a bilateral agreement between NATO and Afghanistan.
Given the chief coordinating role of the UN in international efforts to stabilise the situation in Afghanistan, the resolution urged the new NATO-led mission to closely cooperate with the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
Regional cooperation acquired special importance in this regard, a statement from the embassy said. The UN Security Council would monitor the implementation of the resolution on a regular basis, it added.
