KUNDUZCITY(PAN): The deputy governor of Kunduz said on Saturday his guards had found a huge bomb planted beneath a culvert in front of his residence.
Hamidullah Danishi said a possible attempt on his life was thwarted when the guards saw the remote-controlled bomb and informed the police headquarters.
“It was a heavy bomb that could kill me and destroy nearby houses,” said Danishi, accusing the Taliban insurgents of planting the device.
No one had so far been detained in this connection, but an investigation was underway, he said.
“I am not afraid of the Taliban even if they kill me. If I am killed in my struggle against the Taliban, I would die as a martyr,” he remarked.
A Taliban local commander recently said they would target provincial officials.
