KABUL (Pajhwok): A radio station has been banned from airing its programmes for 10 days in southeastern Paktia province following residents’ complaint about an advertisement, officials said on Monday.

Zaid Mohsini, a senior manager at Moby Media Group, which runs the FM radio channel, Arman, told journalists the decision to impose the 10-day ban had been taken at a meeting with members of parliament from Paktia.

Lawmaker Gul Pacha Majidi said the radio aired an advertisement that insulted Paktia residents, moving the authority to take a decision.  He did not go into details about the advert.

He said it had been initially agreed to ban the broadcasts for a month, but since the radio officials had confessed to their mistake and apologized, the ban was reduced to 10 days.

Zaid Mohsini said: “The ad on Arman radio has been produced by a company. Our purpose wasn’t insulting the people of Paktia and we officially apologise for that.”

He promised to sack Moby Group employees who had committed negligence.
