ISLAMABAD(PAN): Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday said his government was under immense domestic and international pressure after the killing of the Al Qaeda leader in the country.
“We are under huge pressure at home and abroad since the Abbottabad operation on May 2,” Gilani told upper house of the parliament during a speech.
However, he said that Pakistan had not been isolated after the operation and that the international community continued to support the nation.
Gilani said that the Chief of Army Staff was the first one to inform him about the operation and had called him at 2am that night, however, at that time it was not known who the helicopters belonged to
Gilani said that Osama bin Laden had not been invited to Pakistan and that Pakistan had sacrificed a lot in the war against extremism and the international community supported these efforts of the nation.
He said that if there were any shortfalls in the government’s policies then the Parliament could help in correcting those.
The prime minister urged the countrymen, politicians and the opposition to help his government deal with the situation and steer the country out of crises.
Political analyst, Mujeebur Rahman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Pakistan was under pressure from people of the country and the international community after the death of Osama.
He suggested the government should provide exact details of the operation that led to the killing of the world‘s most wanted man.
He said Gilani’s denial that they were not informed about the Abbottabad incident showed the failure of Pakistan’s intelligence service.
A dubious policy of the Pakistani government over the presence of Osama in Pakistan led the country to isolation, military expert, Hassan Askari, said.
