Conjoined twin girls born in Nangarhar

JALALABAD (PAN): A mother gave birth to conjoined twin girls in a hospital in the eastern province of Nangarhar, hospital sources said on Sunday.

Born two days ago, the two girls have separate bodies, but share stomach and chest,

Dr. Zaki Rastak, the maternity hospital chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The girls were born to a couple from Sarkhrud districts two days ago. The girls had been kept in intensive care unit and they were healthy, the doctor said.

Nangarhar civil hospital director, Baz Mohammad Shirzad, told a press conference that the twins must be sent abroad to keep them alive. He said they lacked sophisticated technology to deal with such cases.

He said the birth of the conjoined twin girls was the first its kind in the county. He said there were 80 percent chances that the girls could be separated.
