QUETTA (Pajhwok): Maulvi’s Baluchistan province, a Taliban source said on Monday.
The source, wishing anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News a former Nangarhar governor and head of the Taliban’s central committee, Maulvi Abdul Kabir, was also travelling in the convoy.
Both Haibatullah and Kabir escaped unhurt in the gun attack that took place on the outskirts of Chaman near the Afghanistan border, but three other Taliban leaders were wounded in the assault.
The top Taliban leaders were in the locality to garner support for Mullah Akhtar Mansour, the Taliban’s new supreme leader, from local clerics of seminaries in the area when they came under attack, the source said.
Chaman is hometown of Mullah Abdul Razzaq who opposes Mullah Mansour’s elevation as Mullah Omar’s successor.
