PUL-I-ALAM (PAN fighters were killed during a clash in the central province of Logar on Monday morning, an official said.
Five workers of the private security firm, escorting a supply convoy, were wounded along with a fighter during the clash, the governor’s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Din Mohammad Darwaish said the gunbattle erupted at 7am when the rebels assaulted the Gardez-bound convoy in the Tamoos area on the outskirts of Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital.
One vehicle was completely destroyed as a result of the attack, the spokesman said, adding the militants’ bodies lay at the scene.
The Logar police chief, meanwhile, confirmed the incident. Brig. Gen. Rogh Lewanai said the private firm had suffered losses, but the extent was yet to be figured out.
As usual, the Taliban insurgents claimed responsibility for the attack. Their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said two guards were killed and three others injured.
