QALAT (Pajhwok): Taliban insurgents hanged 15 of 35 Daesh or Islamic State (IS) fighters they detained in southern Zabul province, local officials said on Monday.

Fierce clashes between the two rival militant groups have been ongoing over the past three days.

The groups belong to Taliban’s widely recognised supreme leader Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansoor and a dissent Taliban commander Mullah Mansoor Dadullah who is also supported by IS militants.

According to Zabul officials, 25 Taliban and 85 Daesh fighters including Uzbek and the armed men of Dadullah have been killed so far.

Taliban on Sunday detained 35 IS fighters most of them Uzbek during the ongoing clashes in Sudani mountainous areas of Khak-i-Afghan district and hanged 15 of them, the district chief of neighbouring Arghandab district, Hajji Mohmand Nasratyar, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Provincial police chief Asadullah Kakar said the Taliban hanged the Uzbek fighters for beheading seven civilians from Jaghori district of Ghazni province.
