KABUL work on the Lataband-Sarobi road was launched on Thursday from Khak-i-Jabar district of central Kabul province, a 964 million afghanis project to be completed in two phases, an employee of the contractor said.
The Lataband Pass is an ancient strategic military position that connects Kabul with the eastern city of Jalalabad on the way to Pakistan.
The reconstruction would cost 946 million afghanis from the Public Works Ministry’s development budget, Naveed Noori, a representative of the contractor, Ahmad Khalid Road Construction Company, told Pajhwok Afghan News at the project launch ceremony in Kabul.
Of the 27-kilometre road, 11.5 km would be reconstructed in the first phase and the rest in the second place that would take 18 months, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Wolesi Jirga member from Kabul Shinkai Karokhel said the project would provide work opportunities and improve transport for people once completed, urging local residents to pay attention to security of the construction workers.
