KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of diesel, liquefied gas, rice and gold dipped while rates of other commodities remained unchanged during the outgoing week in Kabul, market sources said on Thursday.

Abdul Saboor, a filling station worker in the Wazirabad locality of Kabul, said one litre of diesel cost 40 afghanis, compared to last week’s price of 42 afghanis.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News diesel imports,which were previously halted in Kazakhstan, had resumed, bringing down fuel prices. Kazakhstan had delayed exporting fuel for 10 days.

The price of liquefied gas also fell. A dealer in Taimani area, Ikramuddin, said the price of one kilogram of liquefied gas had come down to 52 afghanis from last week’s 60afs.

Last month, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce had announced the purchase of 372,000 tonnes of liquefied gas from Russia, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan to control the price in the local market.

Food Traders’ Union head Fazal Rahman said the cost of a 49kg bag of Pakistani flour was 1,435afs, a 49kg sack of sugar 1,980afs, a 16 litretin of ghee 1,000afs — the same as last week’s. But the price of a 24kg bag of rice declined from 1,700afs to 1,650afs.

Ashiqullah, a wholesaler in Kabul, sold a kilogram of Madina green tea for 220afs and the same amount of black African tea for 240afs.

But retailer Khan Ali sold a 49-kg bag of sugar for 2,050afs, 16 liters of ghee for 1,080afs, a 50-kg sack of flour for 1,450afs, a kilogram of black tea for 270afs and the same quantity of green tea for 260afs.

Abdul Basir, a jeweller in Lycee Mariam area, said the price of one gram of Arabian gold decreased from 2,100 afghanis to 2,000afs.The same quantity of the Russian variety fell from 1,750afs to 1,700afs.

Moneychanger Amin Jan Khostisaid the buying rate of one US dollar was 66.80afs, while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 638afs. Last week’s exchange value of the dollar stood at 66.90afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 622afs.
