GHAZNI CITY/MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Nearly a dozen Taliban militants and two uprising members have been killed in separate incidents of violence in southern Ghazni and northern Faryab provinces, officials said on Thursday.
Ghazni police chief Gen. Aminullah Amarkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News four Taliban fighters were killed and another three wounded on Thursday when the explosives they were placing in a car went off in Giru district of Ghazni.
He said the slain militants intended to detonate the car bomb in Ghazni City, the provincial capital, but they were blown up by their own explosives.
Separately, a public uprising member and four Taliban fighters were killed during a clash in Garziwan district of Faryab province, the provincial police spokesman, 2nd Lt. Mohammad Karim Yurash said. Another two rebel fighters were also injured in the Wednesday’s evening battle.
The clash broke out after Taliban militants attacked a security checkpoint in Sahrai Qala area of Khwaja Sabz district, the town’s administrative chief, Abdullah Masoomi, said.
One uprising member and three Taliban militants were killed in the clash that lasted two and a half hours.
