Taliban leader among 7 dead in Kunduz drone raid

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Eight Taliban, including their group leader,havebeen killed in a US drone strike in northern Kunduz province, an official saidon Sunday.

Lt. Col. Ghulam Hazrat Karimi, spokesman for the 20^thPamir Zone, told Pajhwok Afghan News the drone attack happened Saturday night in the Turkha locality of Dasht-i-Archi district.

He said Qari Haleem,a local Taliban leader who was the main character in in last year’s fall of Dasht-i-Archi, was killed alonghisseven associates.

Karimi said the incident took place while themilitants were planting landmines. A vehicle and some weapons belonging to the rebels were destroyed.

The droneraids are an effective weapon against the Taliban,according to the official, who called for a continuation of the strikes
