QALAT (Pajhwok): Zabul GovernorBismillah Afghanmal escaped unhurt in a Taliban attack in the Shah Joi district of the southern province on Sunday morning.
His spokesman, Gul Islam Siyal, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the governor was traveling along with a delegation to Shah Joi when came under attack.
He said the convoy was ambushed by armed militant ambush with light and heavy weapons in the Taza area of the volatile district.
The vehicle the governor was traveling in was hit by some bullets, but no one was hurt in the incident, he added.
Yaqoob Sharafat, a journalist with Kandahar National Television who accompanied the governor, confirmed the Kabul-Kandahar highway was closed as result of the incident.
He said security forces were currently exchanging gunfire with the assailants. He had no information about casualties.However, a resident of the area said a policeman was injured in the attack.
