KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): A notorious Haqqani network commander was killed on Sunday during a clash with security forces in the Spera district of southeastern Khost province, police said.
Khost police chief Brig. Gen. Faizullah Ghairat told Pajhwok Afghan News the Haqqani network commander, Karnil (Colonel) was killed by campaign forces before noon during a clash that left three accomplices of the commander injured.
The security forces suffered no casualties, Ghairat said, adding commander Karnil was a resident of Dwa Manda district.
The police also said three members of a family were killed during an armed clash with a rival family in Khalis area of the provincial capital, Khost city. Another two persons were injured in the clash.
One of the accused has been arrested, but the rest had managed to flee, the police chief said.
