LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Eight policemen guarding a police check-post in Lashkargah, the capital of southern Helmand province, have been killed mysteriously, a source said on Tuesday.
A security official told Pajhwok Afghan News on condition of anonymity that eight policemen were killed and three others wounded at the check-post in Bolan area Monday night.No more details were immediately available.
Gen. Abdul Rahim Chakhansuri, commander of the 505th Bost Zone, said a clash took place between the Taliban and security forces in the area.
He confirmed security forces suffered casualties but did not give specific figures. A delegation had been dispatched to the area for investigations, the commander added.
Border Police Commander Col. Zahir Gul was unaware of the incident, but said a clash took place in the Abdul Rahman Pump locality of Bolan last night.Two Taliban were killed and three others wounded in the overnight clash, he said.
The militants have not yet commented on the incident.
