20 years old Takhar woman hospitalised after being gang-raped

TALOQAN (Pajhwok): A 20-year-old woman was gang-raped in the Farkhar district of northern Takhar province, an official said on Wednesday.

The governor’s spokesman, Sunatullah Timori, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Nasira was disgraced by a man named Jamshed and his associates.

Nasira told Pajhwok Afghan News: “A month after my wedding, I tried to call my uncle, but I mistakenly dialed someone else, who identified himself as Jamshed.

“The man shared some love stories with me and I liked his tales,” the victim said, adding a few days later she eloped with Jamshed to the district centre.

“When we arrived here, Jamshed and two of his friends in police uniforms raped me for four nights,” she alleged.

However, the governor’s spokesman said it was still unclear who was involved in the incident. Police investigations are underway.

Nasira, a resident of the Mashtan village of Farkhar district, is currently under medical treatment at the Takhar Civil Hospital.

Public Health Director Hafizullah Safi confirmed the young woman had been gang-raped. He said the victim was drugged by her rapists.
