PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Unknown gunmen on Thursday killed a provincial council member along with his three security guards in northern Baghlan province, police said.
Another four guards of Alam Jan Mujahid were wounded in the attack that took place on Thursday afternoon in Hussainkhel area of Pul-i-Khumri, the provincial capital, Baghlan police spokesman Zabihullah Shuja told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the public representative was on his way from Pul-i-Khumri to Qand Fabrika area when came under attack from unknown assailants. The police official said the attackers were yet to be identified but police were investigating the incident.
A shopkeeper in the area, Hamid Gul, said: “I saw a vehicle that stopped and gunmen inside opened fire at the car of Alam Jan who was killed along with some guards.”
Another resident of Hussainkhel area, Ghulam Sakhi, said: “I was home when I heard gunfire, when I came out of home, I saw Alam Jan Mujahid and his guards laying on the ground. Then police came and took them to hospital.”
The resident said it was a barbaric incident which occurred in broad daylight inside the provincial capital.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
