GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): At least 13 Taliban militants have been killed and more than 10 others wounded during a clash in Giro district of southern Ghazni province, security officials said on Thursday.
Ghazni Police spokesman, Fahim Amarkhel, told Pajhwok Afghan News many insurgents stormed security posts of the district on Wednesday night.
The clash between the Taliban and Afghan forces continued until Thursday morning that resulted in killing of 13 militants and injuring scores others, he said.
He said the militants who wanted to take control of the district had been pushed back. Two policemen also wounded during the gun battle.
Lal Mohammad, a resident f Mazar area of Giro district, told Pajhwok that Taliban attacked the center of the district on Wednesday night.
“Taliban had been gathered in this district several days ago in order to launch a coordinated attack on the district center, the launched the attack last night,” he said.
However, he had no information about casualties.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the incident and claimed large number of Afghan forces suffered casualties during the clash. He said only two Taliban fighters injured in last night’s attack.
