JALALABAD (Pajhwok) At least 16 Taliban and Daesh rebels have been killed as a result of airstrikes and a clash in eastern Nangarhar province, the military said on Tuesday.

Six Daesh — also known as Islamic State — fighters were killed and a civilian named Lal Syed slightly wounded when clashes erupted between Taliban and Daesh fighters in Chaparhar district.

Separately, seven Taliban were killed and two others wounded during an airstrike in Garatak and Babakhel area of Chaparhar district. A vehicle and a machinegun belonging to the insurgents were also destroyed.

The statement added three militants more were killed and four wounded in a separate airstrike in Sulemankhel and Mandarkhel areas of Pachagram district.

Clashes between Taliban and Daesh fighters are still underway in Pachagram and Chaparhar districts. At times, the fighters also attack security forces. But the groups are yet to comment on the clashes and airstrikes.
