JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least 45 Daesh — or so-called Islamic State (IS) — militants have been killed in a NATO airstrike in the Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province, officials claimed on Thursday.
Police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News the drones struck Daesh hideouts in the Makrana area of Achin late on Wednesday night.
He said the air raid left as many as 54 IS militants dead and several others wounded. The dead included foreign nationals, he claimed, saying the blitz resulted in the destruction of weapons and ammunition belonging to the militants.
Mashriqiwal said civilians and security personnel suffered no casualties in the airstrike. There has been so far no word from the insurgents in this regard.
