PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The Awami National Party (ANP) president Asfandyar has called on Pakhtuns to forge unity in their ranks to restore durable peace in the region.
Asfandyar Wali Khan issued the call at a public meeting marking the death anniversary of senior party leader Bashir Ahmad Bilour in Peshawar on Friday.
Bilour and nine others were killed on December 22, 2012 when a suicide bomber targeted an ANP rally in Peshawar. At least 18 people were wounded in the attack.
The ANP leader said Pakhtuns had suffered a lot in the four decades long war fought on their land. He claimed America’s Afghan policy had been hurting peace and security in the region.
The election of Donald Trump as US president was unfortunate, he remarked, paying glowing tributes to Bilour for his proactive role against terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
