MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Around 2,000 internally-displaced persons (IDPs) and needy families received food aid in eastern Laghman province on Tuesday, an official said.
Sarhadi Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the assistance had been provided by friendly counties China and Kazakhstan for recently displaced families.
He said the assistance included flour, rice and meat distributed by the natural disasters department officials.
Meanwhile, deputy governor Shahzad Mazlom Yar, who attended the aid distribution ceremony, thanked China, Kazakhstan and donor countries and added the governor’s house has been trying to attract more donations for needy families.
The aid recipients expressed their happiness and thanked the national unity government and the countries who donated the aid.
Samiullah, a resident of Mehtarlam, the provincial capital, said they left their area due to war and were now faced acute shortage of essential food items and other materials.
