Work on Laghman teacher’s township begins

MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): The governor laid the foundation stone of a 170-acre teacher’s township in Qarghai district of eastern Laghman province on Tuesday.

Speaking to Pajhwok on the sidelines of a ceremony in this regard, Governor Mohammad Asif Nang said the residential scheme in Kharoti area of Qarghai district would resolve residential problem of teachers.

Nang said he would try his level best to meet fundamental and basic needs of teachers during his tenure as governor.

He believed the literacy ratio could not be improved until teachers and students were provided facilities they needed.

Laghman education director Abdullah Hameedi said practical work had been launched on the teacher’s township and distribution of 621 plots started to teachers as per directives of President Ashraf Ghani.

He hoped teachers’ living standard would improve with implementation of such projects and with special attention of the central government to the key sector.

Speaking on behalf of his community, a high schoolteacher Mohammad Hasham said the township’s construction would reduce teachers’ problems but teachers also wanted a well-managed transport system to the township.

Last year, many teachers had protested, demanding distribution of plots in the Qarghai residential scheme.
