‘Stray’ mortar hits Helmand home, kills 2 children

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Two children were killed and two others sustained wounds after a stray mortar shell hit their home in Nad Ali district of southern Helmand province, an official said Saturday.

The shell struck the home  in 31-Gharbi area of the district late on Friday, Omar Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Confirming the casualties, he said police were investing to know from which direction the mortar had been fired.

Mohammad Anwar, an official of the district, said the shell struck Kamal Khan’s home, killing his two children and wounding another two.

A source at the Emergency-run hospital in Lashkargah, the provincial capital, said they had received wounded three children and one of them later succumbed to his wounds and the two others were in stable condition.
